Hess GmbH is a complete service provider for plant and machine relocations and has its own crane department

Düsseldorf-based Hess GmbH expanded its crane fleet at the end of January with a Liebherr LTM 1090-4.2 mobile crane. The company specialises in company relocations, machine assembly and machine transport work and started its own crane department four years ago both for hire and for in-house crane use for machine assembly jobs.

Company owner Joachim Hess travelled in person to the manufacturing plant in Ehingen to take delivery of the new crane. He said: “The new LTM 1090-4.2 will replace a stolen LTM 1070-4.2 and is now our largest crane. We wanted a powerful 4-axle crane with low axle loads which we can use flexibly. The LTM 1090-4.2 features a 60 metre telescopic boom making it perfect for jobs for craftsmen in Düsseldorf city centre, such as balcony installation and roofing work. Hess said: “Every metre of boom length makes a difference here. The VarioBase variable support base and VarioBallast adjustable ballast radius are also very helpful in the constricted city centre. They enable us to use a powerful crane which requires very little space.”

When the company has a job in an extremely constricted area, particularly jobs inside industrial buildings, Hess uses the Liebherr LTC 1050-3.1 compact crane which the company purchased in spring 2018. This crane is particularly used by the machine assembly division as, in addition to its compact dimensions, it delivers good telescoping load capacities and can move with a load on its hook.

Although Hess tries to keep its fleet up to date with the latest technology, it also runs a 23 year old 3-axle LTM 1040/1, which is still providing sterling service thanks to its good quality and care. Joachim Hess explained: “Liebherr mobile cranes hold their value very well and the good level of service plays a major role in deciding to buy a crane from Liebherr. The fact that we are close to the service outlet in Oberhausen is also a benefit, of course.”

Hess GmbH was founded in 1977 as an industrial assembly contractor and now has a workforce of over 50. The fleet also contains special electrically powered mobile cranes and mini cranes. Today the company is one of the leading providers of a complete range of plant and machine relocation services.
