Weiland adds Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 mobile crane to its fleet

Weiland Kran und Transport GmbH has extended its fleet with a new Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 mobile crane. The company attaches a great deal of value to the fast set-up times and great flexibility of its new eight-axle crane. Weiland will be taking delivery of another new Liebherr mobile crane in April. The new four-axle LTM 1090-4.2 was ordered as a result of its extremely attractive economical features.

Volker Degenhardt, Managing Director of Weiland Kran und Transport GmbH, his son Sebastian Degenhardt and Project Manager Gerd Chmeliczek, visited the Liebherr Plant in Ehingen in March to take delivery of the LTM 1450-8.1 in its new white and orange Weiland livery. "Our customers and our range of work require a crane of this type", says Volker Degenhardt, and continues: "The 450-tonne crane is compact and flexible despite having eight axles. Its 85 metre telescopic boom means that there is often no need to fit a fixed jib. And its short set-up times mean that the crane can be relocated very quickly. This is very important for the demolition of bridges which will be the main area of work for the crane."

The large number of load restriction reductions on bridges on German roads means that the crane cannot always be driven with its gross weight of 96 tonnes which is why Weiland ordered the LTM 1450-8.1 with a removable telescopic boom. "That enables us to reduce the gross weight of the crane to less than 60 tonnes, making us very flexible", explains Gerd Chmeliczek and goes on: "The ten-tonne ballast slabs can be transported at low cost on any standard semi-trailer."

Sebastian Degenhardt mentions another advantage of the new 450-tonne crane: "We are delighted with the lifting capacity values of the new crane even without ballast as it achieves fantastic values using VarioBase".

One of its first jobs will take the 450-tonne crane to Immenstadt im Allgäu where it will used to dismantle a bridge. The LTM 1450-8.1 will have to hoist individual parts weighing up to 90 tonnes.

Weiland Kran und Transport GmbH is a family-run company currently headed by the third generation. That the company currently has a 50-strong workforce and owns 16 cranes. In addition to crane rental, Weiland is also active in the service and lifting platform rental sectors.
